CABIN FEVER






Inspiration for this challenge comes from my teenage years when my family, and a
couple others, would rent a mountain cabin at Lake Arrowhead, CA during winter
break. With lots of snow and winter activities to keep us busy on most days, there was an
occasional day when we were snowed in. What did we do to pass the time, you ask?
Board Games, of course [or as we liked to call them, BORED Games.]
Here is my creation - a toy that would help even adults from going stir crazy. Created
from things one would find readily available around a mountain cabin, I hope you enjoy
giving this a try and putting your very own spin on it. Have Fun!
 


Difficulty: Beginner
Time Required: 45 minutes + drying time
 





1. Find a spool of ribbon and remove one of the cover pieces.



2. I painted the spool piece with Creative Medium – Bronze Metallic for a beautiful shine
and texture. Then I took some VersaCraft Ink [Ultramarine] and painted the top and
bottom piece. This is a thicker ink that covers cardboard well.








3. Take a piece of acetate and punch or cut two discs a tad smaller than the opening of the
spool. Find a picture you like and cut it the same size. Place both at the bottom of the spool
making sure the acetate piece is on top. I used part of a comic strip that refers to the Cabin
Fever theme. Next, I took three pieces from a box of Rock Salt and inked them with
VersaCraft Ink [Red Poppy.]. Using a wooden matchstick, I broke off a piece into a “V”
shape and inked it with the Ultramarine VersaCraft Ink.. I then glued this “V” to the bottom
piece of acetate.






Take the second piece of acetate and adhere it to the rim of the spool at the top. Take the
piece you removed from the spool and paint it. When dry, adhere it over the top piece of
acetate and Voila…..you are ready to play.

CAS-ual FRIDAYS BLOG HOP When I chose the CAS-ual Fridays Casual Comfort Stamp/Die Set for this Blog Hop,  I planned on creating a more upbeat card. Recent events  forced me to change my mind -  unfortunately there are times when we need to send a sympathy card. So, starting with an original photograph of a Calla Lily in my garden, I took one of the Casual Trees Fri-Dies that seemed to mimic fern leaves. I embossed a two-layer piece of card stock for a deep embossed result. Then, using the coordinating stamp, I colored the leaves with VersaFine Ink in the Habanero and Crimson Red colors. The interesting white veining is the result of the embossing technique.
